Dialogical aspects in Integrative Community Therapy

Dialogical aspects in Integrative Community Therapy: an approach that extends community resource networks.

A conversation about the experience of the founder of Integrative Community Therapy, that has qualified more than 40,000 people in Brazil, with the aim of widening solidarity networks. Integrative Community Therapy is a space for sharing life experiences among people who alleviate pain and suggest new paths to overcome their suffering (it is currently part of the official policy of the Brazilian Ministry of Health)

“I realized that it was more about being understood and cared for in suffering than about illness or psychiatric disorders to be treated with medication. People need relationships and social support more than they need my knowledge. As a psychiatrist, I realized that it was not enough to treat psychic disturbances, but to foster and develop a quality of ‘living together’ that would allow each person’s fulfillment,” Professor Adalberto Barreto.

Reflected by Cecilia Villares, a trainer in dialogical practices and coordinator of the course in Open Dialogue in several countries, the conversation will have as background the dialogical aspects that can be pointed out in Integrative Community Therapy and how they help in the perpetuation of this practice that has already gained prominence also outside Brazil.
